A little note to all Teams

Some people wonder why people in Cumberland, especially the leaders, are so strict. Why can’t we cuss on the court or why do the leaders want us to come to church? We as leaders don’t want to yell or bench players. We don’t take joy in taking your joy away. We do it because
we want you to learn and grow, part of that process is to follow rules that are set. CCU is a Christian league and we are a Christian Church that participates in their events. This means that rules that they set we must respect also on top of our rules.

Our goal for Cumberland has always been to spread the gospel. This doesn’t mean that we want to force you to believe in God. The choice to believe and understand God is a decision that you must make yourself. Each one of us has our own journey to find God. This is the reason why we are here. We want to help you on that journey to know and to seek God.

Why are we so strict and want you to follow so many rules such as showing up? I think every year players forget after the season start, the important of participating at church during your time here. The reason why is because in life we are always forced to chose one thing over another and it is hard for us. For the coaches and the staff at Cumberland Sports Ministry we do make a lot of sacrifices to Coach you, Set up practices, get jerseys and other tasks that you many not see. We do this though with a joyful heart that you all will enjoy and have fun in CCU Basketball and to see you all grow. We do understand your hardships but we do need you to follow the rules that CCU and our Church has put forth for us.

Let’s all grow and have fun in this League and do our part to keep this going. I believe each one of us in this league is put here for a purpose and we are all here to grow and learn from each other. I hope that you all take time to get to know everyone on our teams and give them a chance to know you back.

On the court chemistry is a key component to victory and chemistry is not something easily learned. The older Bronze team that Jason Yu is coaching has known each other for ages except for some players but the Chemistry is still not there. It’s not an easy thing to have that Chemistry on the court but I believe that if you give yourself a chance to work with others you will see that Chemistry. I have high hopes for all the teams that Cumberland has from Volleyball, Softball, to Basketball. Let’s all work with the goal to not just play the game but be apart of the game and Cumberland Church. Thank you all Cumberland’s Brother and Sisters. Let’s do great things this Summer.
