Volleyball Awesomeness

Can you believe it? It's July already! It's been several weeks into our CCU sports ministries and we're just getting started. I wanted to give an update on how our Cumberland Volleyball teams are doing.

The Chinatown C4 team from our Chinatown Young Career Fellowship, has played superbly in their past games. Often complaining about being "old" and "aching", they are boasting one of the (if not the best) record in our division. They faced Daly City's DC1 last night in another intense Cumberland vs Cumberland match up. Despite missing two key players, C4 was able to hold off DC1 for a 1-1 tie. They are always a thrill to watch. Congrats to all our C4 players.

Not far behind is our DC1 Daly City EPIC college fellowship group. They have increased their level of game play by implementing a complex yet very offensive 6-2 rotation. Always improving and eager to learn more and challenge themselves, this team is another one to beat in our division. They have played very well and has surpassed coach expectations this summer. They had two difficult matches last night and proved their excellent teamwork. Great job to all the college members in DC1 for their hard work and efforts.

DC2 has been playing with a lot of heart and have seen their share of tough opponents, but it hasn't stopped them from keeping positive and looking forward to the next match. Each member has been very supportive of each other and they work well as a team, considering the skill level differences between different players. The veterans on this high school team has been most helpful in assisting their new teammates. Look forward to some great matches from DC2.

Not to be overlooked, DC3 has proved that they should not be left behind in the standings. Chasing DC1, DC3 played for bragging rights in an intense matchup with DC1 last night. The younger underdog DC3 team played very solid defense to hold off the aggressive and intimidating older DC1 team that ended with a 1-1 tie between both teams. They will rematch on 7/27 and we will see which of the two will be the most improved team for Cumberland this year.

Reporting from Herbert Hoover Middle School, Gordon, signing out.
