A Message from the Committee

This past Sunday, we mentioned some changes we plan to implement for this new summer season of CCU Basketball. This year, your team assignments will be grouped based on who can grow, learn and play best together. Please be aware that this may mean
that you may not be placed on the primary team of your choice. These decisions are always difficult and we are not doing this intentionally to discriminate against any particular person because of their skill level. Our intention is to group members to best grow the ministry and encourage greater fellowship, chemistry and teamwork with one another. We had a great turn out this past Sunday for interested players, new and returning. Because of the limited space, there is no good way of addressing this, but we may not be able to place all applicants on a team.

This summer, we will also enforce a policy we have been lax on in the past. As a player representing a Church basketball team, there are several expectations from the Church leadership, one of them being an active participant in church-related activities. We will require all players, staff, committee and any other member involved in the CSM to attend at least 2 fellowships per month. Other activities include: worship, retreats, workshops and any other church-sponsored program. Please visit our church website or bookmark this blog for event listings.

Another change in administration will be team sizes. In the past, large teams have not fared well and it made it difficult to connect with all your teammates and decreased game time for each member. Because of your suggestions, we will scale back the team sizes and limit the size per team. Again, because of the limited team sizes, if you are not placed on your primary team of choice, please understand that we are unable to accommodate every request and each team assignment is taken into great consideration.

A bit of good news, although CCU participation costs have increased, we will keep your costs the same. Registration cost is $60.00 and a $30.00 deposit for jersey rental will be required at time of registration. Checks for registration can be made out to “James Choi”. As for the jersey deposit, we will only accept CASH in an open envelope. If you do not need a jersey or have purchased your own Cumberland jersey, please inform James Choi. All deposits will be returned when jersey is returned.

All payments and form must be completed by March 28th 2010. If we do not have your forms or payments, we will not be able to assign you to a team and you may miss out on participating this summer. Please be responsible and complete your forms and payments in a timely manner.

Practice times and locations have yet to be determined and will be dependent on coaches and team selection. If there is a great interest in gym rental, please speak with a Committee member or send us an email (email below). Cost for gym rental will be the responsibilities of the players.

More information to come; please stay tuned. For detailed information, send your requests to cumberland.sport@gmail.com. For urgent matters, contact James Choi or Gordon Yu.

Thank you. We will be contacting interested players within this week and final fees, deposits, and any required forms are due March 28, 2010.
